Provision of Patient Care

Abstract: This topic discusses patient assessment as it pertains to the gathering of dental history, dental examination, occlusal analysis and periodontal assessment.  It will also discuss vital signs, ASA classifications and premedication guidelines.  The provision of preventive dentistry, nutritional counseling and biopsy/testing techniques will also be discussed. The speaker will discuss basic principles of instrumentation with: the periodontal probe, explorer, sickle scaler, universal curets and area-specific curets.  The use and contraindications of power-driven scalers is also discussed, as well as instrument sharpening techniques.
